E. Course Requirements for Students:
Daily Assignments—You will be responsible for completing an assignment daily at school or at home. Properly completed, checked and corrected lessons will be handed in at the next class session. If you are absent, you are responsible for handing in missed work and scheduling quizzes with me when you return to class.

Semester Goals—You will…

1. complete a daily Practice Notebook with notes and the “Practice” problems from every problem set.
2. set a monthly Accelerated Math goal, based on identified strengths and weaknesses.
3. work with a classmate to complete a Math Poster Partner Activity to be displayed in the classroom.
4. complete an individualized project to be presented to the class at the end of the semester.

Textbook Care and Use—Cover your textbook and write your name on the cover. You will need your textbook at school and at home. Read the textbook ALOUD to understand the lesson and reinforce it.

Evaluation—You will complete brief quizzes on a weekly basis and periodic tests. You will be given opportunities to earn extra credit test points through Accelerated Math and may rework and explain missed quiz problems.

G. Course Requirements for Parents:
Daily Assignments—Provide a quiet place for your student to concentrate on work. If your student rushes through the problems, he or she may become frustrated or confused. Please make sure your student reads the assignment sheet and the explanations in the text BEFORE working the problems. Keep the Solutions Manual in a secure location until after your student has checked the practice notebook and read the textbook lesson ALOUD. No math assignment should exceed 90 minutes of diligent effort. Consult www.algebrahalf.wikispaces.com for assistance and, finally, contact me at 634-6467 and give the problem and page number from the textbook. Students who turn in incomplete work without having asked for help will stay in at lunch recess to complete the work.

Format—To help your student work the math lessons in the first chapter, I have attached a sample assignment sheet with notes added. It is formatted the way I want your child to do the problem sets every day on binder paper to hand in. Your student will also need a practice notebook, spiral or bound, used only for the practice sets and math notes.

Progress—You will receive information about how to access your student’s grade online by September 1. Please contact me if you have questions about your student’s progress. Please be aware that I can’t slow down or skip lessons in class; students would be unprepared for the state standards examinations and future math classes.

Math Lab—Students who are struggling to maintain a minimum “C” average will be required to attend Math Lab during Period 5 or on Wednesday and Friday mornings during Period 3.

Support— Offer your student a drink of water and a place to work without distractions before 8 pm. Resist the urge to interrupt your student during this time. With practice and patience, your student will succeed in math class!

1. Your student must work every problem assigned unless he or she has an assignment pardon (90% quiz score)
2. We DO NOT use calculators. Monday take-home tests are open-book. Quizzes in class are closed-book.
3. Students should check and circle all correct ODD answers and rework incorrect problems until they are correct. Please consult the Solutions Manual if necessary, but do not allow your student to copy the steps from it.
4. All tests and quizzes are graded with correct answers circled. Your student may reclaim quiz points within one week by explaining in writing what error was made and how to correct it. No points may be reclaimed on tests.
5. Students will complete one poster activity with a partner and one individual project. Rubrics will be provided one month prior to the beginning of these activities. Projects will be presented orally in January.
6. Students may earn extra credit test points using Accelerated Math for areas of weakness in math. Volunteers are needed to help students scan the answers into the computer system for scoring, print out and file paperwork.
